Privacy Policy
PermitAhead asks for your property address and project details so we can look up the correct permit requirements. We don't require an account, and we don't sell your information.
The address and answers you enter are stored only in your browser for the length of your session, so you can move between steps without re-entering information. If you leave feedback about an unsupported city, the optional email you provide is used only to follow up on that request.
We use PostHog, a product analytics service, to understand which pages and features people use — for example, which cities and project types get looked up, whether a permit check was completed, and whether a results page led to a Permit Help request. PostHog assigns your browser an anonymous, randomly generated ID, stored in a cookie and in your browser's local storage, so we can tell that the same visit or return visit took a sequence of actions. We do not attach your name, email, phone number, or address to this ID, and we do not ask PostHog to try to identify you. The address you enter to check permit requirements is never sent to PostHog, and event data never includes any Permit Help request's name, email, phone, or message. If you choose to tell us on a results page whether you are a homeowner, contractor, real estate professional, or other, we record that one answer with the same anonymous ID so we can see who finds PermitAhead useful; it is optional and is never linked to your name or contact details.
Permit Help requests
If you ask PermitAhead for help with a permit — through a "Get Permit Help," "Find a Contractor," or after-the-fact permit request — we collect your name, and an email address and/or phone number, along with any details you choose to add and the permit information already on screen (such as the jurisdiction, project type, and your questionnaire answers). We use this only to respond to your request and, if you've asked for professional help, to share it with an appropriate service provider so they can follow up with you. We do not store your full street address as part of that request unless you choose to include it yourself.
Submitting a Permit Help request requires your explicit consent, given at the time you submit it. We keep a record of when that consent was given. Permit Help request records are reviewed by PermitAhead directly; we do not currently operate a public marketplace or automatically match you with a provider.
PermitAhead is not a government agency and does not issue, review, or approve permits. We provide informational guidance based on official government sources and, when requested, help connecting you with permit professionals or contractors — the applicable local building department remains the authority on your permit.
We keep Permit Help request records for as long as reasonably needed to respond to your request and for basic recordkeeping. If you'd like a request removed, contact us through the Resources page.
