How does PermitAhead know what permit I need?
We research each city or county's official building department sources — permit checklists, exemption notices, and fee schedules — for the project types and locations we cover, and turn that into a plain-English answer for your project.
Is this the same as applying for a permit?
No. PermitAhead tells you what to expect and helps you prepare. You still apply directly with the local building department, using the application link we provide on your results page.
What if my result says "more information needed"?
Some permit rules depend on details we can't determine from a general questionnaire alone, like exact project cost or scope. In that case, we'll tell you what's still uncertain so you can confirm it with the building department.
What if my city isn't supported yet?
Let us know from the results page — we're adding South Florida cities over time, and hearing where homeowners need coverage helps us prioritize.
